Welcome!

Choosing a mental health professional to work with can sometimes seem overwhelming.  It is important to find someone you feel fits best with your needs and offers the types of services you may require.  To assist you with your decision-making, I’d like to share with you some information about myself, about my training and expertise, and about the types of services I currently provide.

I enjoy working with both individuals and couples.  The majority of my practice is focused on adults age 18 and older.  However, I do work with older adolescents as well, depending on the issues involved.  I use a collaborative, interactive style of therapy that is geared toward each individual’s needs.  To accomplish this, I draw from a variety of theoretical orientations. I have training and experience in cognitive behavioral, family systems, interpersonal and solution-focused approaches.  I also incorporate elements of DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) and Mindfulness into my therapeutic work.  I believe that a more holistic approach is often the best approach to many mental health issues, one that addresses the mind, the body, and the spirit.

My primary goal is to establish a comfortable and safe therapeutic relationship so that you feel supported as you work toward achieving your goals. Depending on the issues, therapy may be relatively short-term, or may continue for longer, if needed.  I work with those who have very specific mental health disorders as well as those who are seeking personal growth.  I enjoy working with couples to improve communication, resolve issues, increase intimacy, and strengthen the foundation of their relationship.

About Dr. Reinker

I have been providing mental health services for over 30 years.  I started working in a rural community mental health center in the early 1980s.  I received my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Virginia in 1985.  After working in group practices in both Rhode Island and New York, I relocated back to Virginia in 1999.  Since that time, I have enjoyed working in private practice in Williamsburg.

My experience over the years has included working in a wide variety of settings with a wide variety of populations and problems. This “generalist” background allows me to have a diverse practice, which I deeply enjoy.  Although my formal education is behind me, I am constantly reading and learning about new techniques to incorporate into my therapy work. The ability to continually learn and grow as both a person and as a therapist is an essential aspect of my life.
